What is the difference between

Theraband and Loop Bands

So we use Therabands in our classes together. They are flat, continuous strips of elastic material and we use them for resistance. Loop bands are closed resistance bands with a circular design- similar to Therabands.

  1. Applications:

    • Theraband: Therabands are often used for rehabilitation and physical therapy exercises. They can be tied or anchored to create resistance for a wide range of movements and stretches.

    • Loop Pilates Bands: Loop bands are commonly used in Pilates and general fitness workouts. They are designed for dynamic movements and are often used around the legs or arms to add resistance to exercises.

  2. Versatility:

    • Theraband: Therabands are more versatile in terms of length adjustment. You can cut them to different sizes to customize the resistance for various exercises.

    • Loop Pilates Bands: Loop bands are less adjustable in terms of length but are specifically designed for looped exercises around specific body parts.

  3. Exercise Types:

    • Theraband: Therabands are suitable for both upper and lower body exercises. They can be used for strength training, stretching, and flexibility exercises.

    • Loop Pilates Bands: Loop bands are often used for lower body exercises such as leg lifts, squats, and lateral walks. They are also used for upper body exercises like bicep curls and shoulder presses.

Both can be effective tools for strength training, flexibility, and rehabilitation, and they can complement each other in a well-rounded exercise program.

I have been trialling the loop bands at home and they will be winging their way to class later this Term! Here are a few exercises to try at home in between our sessions together for those that fancy purchasing a set (Approx £10 on Amazon at the moment).
