A new chapter! The start of my Reformer journey!

What is a Reformer?

A Pilates Reformer is a piece of fitness equipment used for Pilates exercises. It consists of a platform (also known as a carriage) that moves back and forth along a track, which is attached to a set of springs that provide resistance. The carriage is also equipped with various straps, handles, and footrests that can be used to perform a wide range of exercises.

The Pilates Reformer was originally designed by Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates method, as a way to provide a full-body workout that focuses on strength, flexibility, and balance. The resistance provided by the springs helps to tone and strengthen muscles, while the sliding platform allows for a greater range of motion and a deeper stretch.

Today, Pilates Reformers are used in many different settings, including gyms, Pilates studios, and physical therapy clinics. They are popular among people of all fitness levels and can be used to target specific muscle groups, improve posture, and increase overall fitness and wellness.

I’ve always been a big believer in the value of Professional Development- stretching one’s mind as well as ones body! Over the last 3 years I have trained in Foam Roller/Mini Ball and Pilates Barre. The next step of progression is to add the Reformer to my existing portfolio.

I’ve been test driving various models over the last few weeks. Yesterday I went to London to Rebel1- Oxford Circus and took part in an amazing high energy class. Really feeling it in my glutes/adductors and hamstrings today! The result though, of this experience, has made my mind up on the model/equipment that I wish to purchase for the Studio- the Allegro 2 Reformer by Balanced Body is the way to go, in my opinion! Now for the hard bit- the training! My next challenge is to start studying for the Level 3 Reformer course via HFE. Hope to be able to offer this facility to clients in the Autumn…

Unfortunately, the Studio will be closed during the refit. Watch this space for updates!
