Alignment

Within Class - I know I’m pretty fussy about alignment of the body- ha ha! I thought I’d do a quick recap on why in Classic Mat Pilates there is this emphasis.

Alignment is important in Pilates because it helps ensure proper form and technique during exercises. By maintaining proper alignment, you engage the right muscles and reduce the risk of injury. It also helps you get the most out of each exercise, maximizing its effectiveness and helping you reach your fitness goals.

 In Pilates, correct alignment starts with maintaining a neutral spine, which means keeping the natural curves of the spine intact and avoiding excessive arching or rounding. This is important because it helps maintain balance and stability, and protects the lower back from strain.

 Proper alignment also involves keeping the shoulders relaxed and down, the chin tucked, and the ribcage lifted. Maintaining good posture and alignment also helps you breathe more efficiently, which is important for maximizing the benefits of each exercise.

 In summary, proper alignment is crucial in Pilates because it helps you perform exercises correctly, reduce the risk of injury, and get the most out of your workout.

Thinking Ahead…

I know it is a while off but putting plans into place for the Summer. I’d like to test the temperature/interest in holding classes in my Studio during August, on a trio basis. As regular clients are aware, Public group sessions finish at the end of July and resume in September. For many, this is a welcome break during the Summer period but some of you still wish to continue your Pilates practice. I’ll be offering Tuesday and Wednesday classes this year at my Steventon Studio. It will have to be on a first come first served basis.
